After 5 years, the original Box-Office King Bossing Vic Sotto makes an Epic MMFF Comeback -- with a whole different approach, nope NOT another comedy film, but this time, it's a purely dramatic movie.
The story centers on Lakan Makisig, played by Vic Sotto, the ruler of the Kingdom of Kalayaan. His character represents both the challenges and triumphs of leadership in a pre-colonial monarchy. Piolo Pascual portrays Sulayman "Sulo" Tagum, a farmer from a marginalized background who embarks on a journey of self-discovery and justice. The ensemble cast also includes Cristine Reyes, Sue Ramirez, Sid Lucero, and others.
Notably, The Kingdom deviates from Vic Sotto's comedic roots, offering a serious and action-packed narrative. The production emphasizes Filipino martial arts, cultural designs, and a rich portrayal of a historical "what-if" scenario, making it both visually and thematically compelling.
The film aims to provoke discussions about Filipino identity and resilience while celebrating the potential of local culture and traditions in an uncolonized setting.
